Individual Awards Highlight Crusaders’ Dominance

Barrington “Tippa” Bartley was the standout performer, earning both the Grand Final Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Tournament MVP awards as well as best bowler for the tournament. His match-winning unbeaten century in the final capped an outstanding all-round tournament.

Carl Wright was named the tournament’s Best Batsman, following a series of exceptional innings, including 91 in the semifinal, 68 against Piggi Allstar, and 53 in the championship final.

Deendial Soodeen completed the club’s individual honors by capturing the Best Wicketkeeper award, recognizing his contributions behind the stumps throughout the competition.

These awards reflected the depth of talent and quality within the Crusaders Masters squad.

For Crusaders Masters, the 2026 title represented much more than another cricket tournament victory.

Since the Dr. Donavon Bennett Masters competition started in 2019, following the separation from the now-defunct Michael Holding Masters tournament, the club had pursued the ultimate prize without success.

Seven years later, that ambition finally became reality.

What made the achievement even more remarkable was the manner in which Crusaders accomplished it. After their opening match was abandoned, they won six consecutive matches, overcoming every opponent they faced and delivering their strongest performances when the stakes were highest.

Throughout the tournament, different players stepped forward when called upon. From Kevin Darlington’s devastating bowling against Mobay to Steve Massiah’s explosive batting, Carl Wright’s consistency, and Barrington Bartley’s match-winning brilliance, the championship was truly a collective achievement.

Behind the team’s remarkable success was the distinguished leadership of captain Steve Massiah, who led Crusaders with confidence, composure, and distinction throughout the tournament. His leadership, both on and off the field, was instrumental in keeping the players focused and united in their pursuit of championship glory. Equally deserving of recognition was team manager Godfrey Mitchell, who, in his usual dedicated and dependable manner, worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the players were comfortable, well taken care of, and able to concentrate fully on their cricket. Their combined efforts provided the leadership and support that helped make this historic achievement possible.

Crusaders finished the competition with six victories, no defeats, and the championship trophy firmly in their possession.

Champions at Last!

The 2026 Dr. Donavon Bennett Masters Tournament will forever hold a special place in the history of Crusaders Masters Cricket Club.

After years of determination, commitment, and perseverance, the club finally achieved its long-awaited championship dream.

For the players, management, and supporters, the victory was a fitting reward for the hard work and sacrifices made over the years.
